MDR: Purge Compact
How to Purge and Compact the MDR Database
1. Open the Report Generator program and log in as Supervisor.
2. Selecting Purge Records will show you the current range of dates in the MDR and CTE Databases.
3. Exit the purge screen. Go into Data Copy. This screen allows you to make a copy of the information before you purge it.
4. Specify the Start and End Dates of the time period you are going to purge.
5. The target file should be the directory and the file name we wish to create. If a directory is not specified, it will use C:AmtelcoReport Generator. Example: 010100-012800mdr.mdb for a MDR file or 010100-012800cte.mdb for a CTE file would be used for January 1st, 2000 to January 28th, 2000. Consistency on naming conventions is important to easily identify date ranges and data types when retrieving information in the future.
6. Select Copy MDR when purging the MDR database or Copy CTE when purging the CTE Database.
7. After it finishes, click on the MDR icon on the bottom of the screen to bring up the MDR Capture program.
8. Click on the button labeled DIVERT. It should change to saying IMPORT.
9. Click on the Report Generator icon at the bottom of the screen to bring up Report Generator.
10. Exit the Data Copy screen and choose the Purge Records option.
11. The Purge Date needs to be the End Date that you had entered in the Data Copy Screen.
12. Set the Purge for Standard if not already chosen.
13. Choose Purge MDR when purging the MDR database or Purge CTE when purging the CTE Database.
14. After it completes, exit the Purge Records screen and select MDR UTILS. This will bring up a screen saying that the MDR must be diverted. Click OK.
15. Select Yes when it asks if you want to compact both MDR and CTE databases IF you have purged both databases prior to this step. If only one of the two databases have been purged, select No and then select Yes when asked if you would like to compact the appropriate database.
16. When it finishes, it will say that the MDR Capture can now be imported.
17. Click OK and Exit the Report Generator program.
18. Bring up the MDR Capture program and click on the button labeled Import.
If you use Report Generator or Unified Reports on other computers besides the MDR computer, you will need to perform the following additional steps:
19. Right-click on the Windows Start button and select Explore.
20. In the left-hand exploring window, expand the Program Files folder.
21. Right-click on the MDR Capture folder and select Properties.
22. Select the Security tab.
23. Click on the Advanced button.
24. Check the bottom box. This is labeled "Reset permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions." on Windows 2000 and "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects" on Windows XP/2003. On Vista/2008, you will need to click on an Edit button and then the check box that is labeled "Replace all existing inheritable permissions on all descendants with inheritable permissions from this object".
25. Click on Ok.
26. Click Ok on the MDR Capture Properties window.
