UC: Upgrade Procedure
UltraComm 4.X Upgrade Procedure
This document is designed to outline the steps necessary to upgrade an UltraComm system running version 4.02.16 or greater.
Inventory:
1. Customer should have the latest version of UltraComm Manager/E-mail and Supervisor software.
Amtelco Field Engineering can provide the upgrade files:
A. Uploading via PCAnywhere.
B. Downloading from the Amtelco Field Engineering FTP site.
Once you log in, choose "Ftp Download" from the Main section. Then go to the"UltraComm" folder and "UltraComm4.x".
C. The files are also available on CD, Amtelco Part number: 232CD020.
2. UltraComm should be backed up prior to upgrade, suggested methods include:
Recommended:
A. Creating a mirror image of the hard drive using Norton Ghost. This procedure can be found in the UltraComm 4.x Reference Guide.
Required:
B. Copy the following files to an alternate location: Suggestions include network drive, workstation hard drive, CD ROM, DVD or floppy diskette.

Suggested:
A combination of both methods!
Procedure:
1. Close all UltraComm programs including: UltraComm Manager, Emailer and Supervisor.
2. Insert the UltraComm CD or select the setup.exe file (for the Manager) from the appropriate location. The CD normally auto runs to the menu.
3. Select the Manager/SMTP e-mail install first. If accepted select, "I agree to the license agreement". The install for Manager will be launched select "next" to be prompted for Install or upgrade, select "upgrade".
4. Update the UltraComm Supervisor application by selecting the install from the menu or by running the setup program for this application. Default installation options are suggested.
5. Select from the Start menu, Programs – UltraComm – UCClients Convert.
6. Select Upgrade Access Database. Each of the three database files will be converted allowing for new or updated fields.
7. Use the Browse keys or type each source.mdb file and the associated destination new.mdb file. Select upgrade when the correct source and destination are entered. Monitor the status window as shown above for the upgrade complete message. Upgrade all 3 database files shown below:
A. Source – Clients.mdb Destination – NewClients.mdb
B. Source – Tasks.mdb Destination – NewTasks.mdb
C. Source – Log.mdb Destination – NewLog.mdb
8. When the upgrades are complete close the UCClients converter program. Open Windows Explorer and location the c:program files Ultracomm directory. It is now necessary to rename the old MDB files to disabled them and rename the new files so they will be used by default.
Disable the old files:
A. Locate Clients.mdb – Rename Clients.version (Clients.4216 in this example)
B. Locate Tasks.mdb – Rename Tasks.version (Task.4216)
C. Locate Log.mdb – Rename Log.version (Log.4216)
Enable the converted files:
D. Locate NewClients.mdb – Rename Clients.mdb
E. Locate NewTasks.mdb – Rename Tasks.mdb
F. Locate NewLog.mdb – Rename Log.mdb
9. Close Windows Explorer and restart the computer. Verify all applications open and are the intended upgraded version.
A. Test sending a fax.
B. Test sending an e-mail, wireless delivery (if enabled).
C. Verify any other fax functions like FaxMail, if present.
